Paintball Markers
Paintball markers are the piece of paintball equipment that you simply cannot do without. If you don’t have one of these—and a good quality at that—then you might as well not even try to go up against the competition. A paintball marker, in case you had questions, is the instrument used to propel paintballs through the air, generally they are in the shape of a firearm or semiautomatic weapon, but they are far from the real thing. Paintball markers use a form of compressed air, as in canisters like in CO2 cylinders, used forever in bb and pellet shooters. Most paintball markers travel about 200 mph, or 200-300 feet per second.
There are many types of paintball markers on the market these days, and if you’ve got and endless supply of cash, then you’ll have an endless choice of options. The variations of the marker, then, are often very different, but most of the markers have some things in common. These include a frame or body, a chamber for compressed gas, a differing length of barrel and a case that holds the paintballs, often referred to as a hopper. These parts come together to form the “common” marker and give users the basics needed to play the game. As the competition changes, however, the markers can change in design to allow harder, farther and more powerful shooting.

Paintball markers are used in various ways depending on the style and grade of competition. Given this, however, there are some ways that paintball markers are nearly always used. The proper use of a paintball marker includes looking down the barrel to take aim. Pressing the air tank against the left or right shoulder—if you are right-dominant, then you’ll look through the site with your right eye, for instance—gives you a natural form. The opposite hand will be used to stabilize the barrel of the marker. If your marker doesn’t have a site, then you’ll use the V to take proper aim. The hopper should be held vertical to allow the easy flow of paintballs into the chamber—three to four balls per second is considered normal.

One of the worst mistakes you can make when using a paintball marker is trying to do too much, like in the movies. One of the most effective ways to hit someone with your paintball marker is to shoot the balls in front of them. Look in front to where they are heading and take aim there. This often requires more skill than it sounds because the last thing you want happening is to run out of paintballs. Once you do, you’ll be as vulnerable as anyone unarmed. After learning some more of the game, be sure to keep both eyes open when you shoot, moreover, so that you’ll have the periphery vision to see someone attacking from the sides or from behind. Most games are won with strategy and planning and not over-shooting and crazy moves.
